‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ First Look: Keira Knightley Is a Reporter Being Gaslit About Witnessing a Murder Aboard a Yacht

Keira Knightley is back playing a reporter yet again, and this time, she’s at the center of a murder mystery. Knightley leads the buzzy novel adaptation of Ruth Ware’s beloved 2016 thriller “The Woman in Cabin 10,” with an all-star ensemble playing the other murder suspects.

The official synopsis reads: “While on board a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist (Knightley) witnesses a passenger thrown overboard late at night, only to be told that it didn’t happen, as all passengers and crew are accounted for. Despite no one believing her, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger.”

Guy Pearce, David Ajala, Hannah Waddingham, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also star, along with Art Malik, Kaya Scodelario, David Morrissey, Daniel Ings, Gitte Witt, Christopher Rygh, Pippa Bennett-Warner, John MacMillan, Paul Kaye, Amanda Collin, and Lisa Loven Kongsli. Simon Stone directs from a script he cowrote with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse.

“The Woman in Cabin 10” is produced by Debra Hayward and Ilda Diffley. Ware, who recently released the sequel novel “The Woman in Suite 11,” told Tudum that “The Woman in Cabin 10″ captures a universal truth: Women are constantly undermined. “’Cabin 10,’ at its heart, is about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is,” Ware said. “Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as [the character].”

Knightley continues her work at Netflix with the feature after starring in series “Black Doves.” A sequel to her iconic 2002 film “Bend It Like Beckham” was recently announced, although it’s unclear if she will be reprising her role. Knightley said during “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in 2023 that she was surprised by the fandom for the hit soccer movie. “I literally remember telling people I was doing it and it’s called ‘Bend It Like Beckham,’ and them going, ‘Oh that’s really embarrassing,’ Knightley said about her initial impressions of the project. “And they were all like, ‘Don’t worry. Nobody will see it. It’s fine.’”

She added, “It’s amazing because it’s still the film even today, you know, if someone comes up to talk to me about my work it’s that one. It’s so loved. It’s amazing.”
