George Clooney Proud of Noah Wyle’s ‘The Pitt’ Success, Calls him ‘the Most Honorable, Talented Young Man’

George Clooney is proud of his former “E.R.” co-star Noah Wyle for the success of the Apple TV+ series “The Pitt.” In an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” June 3, Clooney said he and Wyle had been “dear friends” since shooting their own medical drama.

“He is just the most honorable, talented young man,” Clooney said. “I get to say [that] because I’m an old man and I cannot be happier for his success on the show. The show is just a beautiful show, and he does just a great job with it.”

Wyle is leading many major predictions in the Emmy nominations race for the Best Actor in a Drama Series. Wyle discussed the success of “The Pitt” with Yahoo! earlier this year.

“[It’] extremely gratifying,” he said. “I keep asking my son, where are all these conversations taking place? He’s like, ‘Dad, you’re not on Reddit.’ I don’t even know how to find that, so for me, gauging impact has been extremely tricky, except for my own circle of friends and family and what I get from the medical community. It’s fucking great. Are you kidding! [laughs] I’m thrilled that this show that we put so much heart into is resonating the way that it is.”

Clooney, meanwhile, is appearing in Broadway’s “Good Night, and Good Luck,” based on the 2005 film he wrote with Grant Heslov. The Oscar-winning star, who made his Broadway debut with the show, is nominated for Best Actor in a Play at the Tony Awards. The ceremony will air Sunday, June 8, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.

CNN and HBO Max will air a live performance of the play “Good Night, and Good Luck” at 7 p.m. ET the night before. Clooney told Deadline that his “E.R.” experience will come in handy for the performance.

“I have a little bit of a history with doing live television,” Clooney said. “I talked NBC into doing ‘E.R.’ as a live show, and then I did a live movie called ‘Fail Safe’ for CBS. Saturday is a good night for us because it’s our last evening performance. Our run is over so it’s not costing the play anything anymore. Why don’t we open it up and show people how fun it is to come to New York to see a play?”

The Pitt” is now streaming on HBO Max.
