Rotten Tomatoes Has Finally Launched a Mobile App That Includes an AI Tool and Themed Emojis

Rotten Tomatoes, after 25 years of declaring movies Fresh or Rotten, has finally launched its own mobile app, one that is equipped with an AI recommendation tool and even some of the website’s own custom emojis.

The app, which is available for free download now on iOS (and soon on Android), has all of the website’s movie and TV discovery pages, Tomatometer and Popcornmeter scores, critic and audience reviews, celebrity interviews, trailers, and entertainment news, in a mobile format. Users can also leave ratings and reviews and make lists of their favorites or watchlist.

For what’s new, Rotten Tomatoes designed “Tomojis,” which are its own custom emojis shaped like tomatoes. There’s also an AI assistant (currently in beta) that the app is calling “aRTi,” which will tell you where certain films and shows are available for streaming or purchase as well as other personalized recommendations. Upcoming features planned for the app include personalized recommendations based on follows, video reactions, reviews, and more, as well as elevated reviewer profiles for Rotten Tomatoes’ most engaged users.

“After more than 25 years of helping fans decide what to watch, we’re excited to take that connection even further,” said Amanda Norvell, SVP of Direct-to-Consumer Services at Fandango. “This app is all about making it easier — and more fun — for people to discover content they love, track what they want to watch, dive deeper into their favorite movies and shows, and connect with other fans, friends, critics and influencers along the way.”

Rotten Tomatoes scores have been available through Fandango, which are both owned by the same parent company Versant, a spun-off company from NBCUniversal. Rotten Tomatoes last year introduced a function called “Verified Hot” that gives a rating based on verified details that people actually bought a ticket to the movie they’re rating. To date, more than 270 films have received the “Verified Hot” rating.
