Andy Cohen Had Trouble Nailing His ‘And Just Like That’ Cameo: ‘I’m Not Good at It’

Andy Cohen became the latest big name to cameo on “And Just Like That” — which will wrap its third and final season on August 14 — appearing as an employee at Bergdorf Goodman named Daniel (we’re assuming that “Watch What Happens Live,” while a pivotal part of New York City in real life, does not exist in this timeline). Cohen joins many, many other celebrities that have appeared on the “Sex and the City” sequel series, including Patti LuPone, Rosie O’Donnell, Jenifer Lewis, Sam Smith, Drew Barrymore, Billy Dee Williams, Gloria Steinem, Tony Danza, Candice Bergen… the list goes on.

But fictional TV, Cohen explained on his podcast (via EW), isn’t his natural habitat. It took a while to get his take, which involved him assisting Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) with shoe shopping. “I think the line in the script was just like, ‘Oh hey, Carrie, I’ll be with you in a sec,’” he explained. As simple as that line may sound, for Cohen, “Shooting these shows… is very difficult.”

“You have to literally walk four steps, say your line at a particular spot, and then keep going,” he said. “There’s a lot of blocking involved, and I just don’t — I’m not good at it.”

Showrunner Michael Patrick King ended up changing the line to, “Hey, Carrie, I’m slammed, I’ll be with you in a minute.” And Cohen, uh… well, he went for it. “When I tell you that I was marching out like, ‘Carrie, I am slammed! I’m gonna be with you in a minute!’ And Michael Patrick King comes over after we do it twice and he goes, ‘Um, this is a really pivotal scene for Carrie.’ He didn’t tell me, but now I know that she just had a big fight with Aiden (John Corbett).”

King told Cohen that he was “stealing focus from Carrie,” otherwise the episode would have been titled “Daniel’s Busiest Day.” “It was very specific and I was saying it in the wrong place,” he continued. “I was just a disaster.” Eventually, he added, they got “the best they could get.”

Since the show’s cancellation announcement, a flood of sentimental statements have come in from its stars, including Parker, who wrote on Instagram in part, “I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all.”

Other stars chimed in, as well, including Kristen Davis, who posted, “I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love.” Cynthia Nixon, meanwhile, said “Thank you Sarah Jessica Parker (& our gorgeous cast & crew!) for the quarter century of memories and friendships.”

Whether any more surprise cameos will grace the final two episodes of the series is yet to be seen, but they will most certainly be meme-worth television.
