New York City might be one of the safest places in the world, but living in luxury apartment complex The Arconia continues to be one of the most dangerous lifestyle choices you can make. The crime-solving trio of Steve Martin’s Charles, Martin Short’s Oliver, and Selena Gomez’s Mabel have built full-time careers out of solving all the killings that go down in their place of residence, and they’re gearing up to solve another one in the upcoming Season 5 of “Only Murders in the Building.”
Following a Season 4 that saw the show explore Hollywood — due to a meta twist in which Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, and Eva Longoria were cast as the three main characters in a fictional movie — Season 5 will once again be a very New York affair.
An official synopsis of Season 5 reads: “After their beloved doorman, Lester, dies under suspicious circumstances, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel refuse to believe it was an accident. Their investigation plunges them into the shadowy corners of New York and beyond — where the trio uncovers a dangerous web of secrets connecting powerful billionaires, old-school mobsters and the mysterious residents of the Arconia,” the description read. “The trio discovers a deeper divide between their storied city they thought they knew and the new New York evolving around them — one where the old mob fights to hold on as newer, even more dangerous players emerge.”
“Only Murders in the Building” continues to be a hit with fans and critics. In his review of Season 4, IndieWire TV Critic Ben Travers cautioned that the show’s onslaught of celebrity guest stars could eventually turn into a real problem, but maintained that the show still offered enough charm to entertain TV fans.
“’Only Murders’ Season 4 is still fun. It’s still funny. It’s still well-made and obviously well-acted. It’s even smart enough to steer attention back to our original trio in a way that leaves no doubt who we’re meant to care about the most,” he wrote. “It’s just a little too enamored by everyone it can cast to realize maybe it would be better not to cast everyone just because it can. They’ve got enough charm in-house. Don’t put us off by going overboard.”
The first three episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 5 debut on Hulu on Tuesday, September 7, with new episodes dropping weekly. Watch the trailer below.
